If the property fetches its asking price, it will be one of the priciest deals on Virgin Gorda

On the Caribbean island of Virgin Gorda, the beachfront home of former New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch has two kitchens and six outdoor showers. Now the property is going on the market for $15.9 million, a price that would be one of the highest ever paid on the island, local agents said.

The roughly 6,000-square-foot, six-bedroom home in the British Virgin Islands sits on a sandy cove in the Oil Nut Bay resort, according to listing agent Roz Colthart with Corcoran BVI. The listing price includes the furnishings and two golf carts for getting around the resort.

The former governor and his wife, retired pediatrician Dr. Susan Lynch, have vacationed on Virgin Gorda since the 1990s.

“We have been to islands all over the world and like the BVIs the best,” he said.

The Lynches started renting this house around 2016, following John’s stint as governor from 2005 to 2013. They planned to build a house on the island, but when their rental home came on the market around 2018, they bought the roughly half-acre estate for about $8 million, he said.

Each of the home’s six bedroom suites has an outdoor shower and separate entrance. Common areas include the two kitchens, a gym and a great room with a vaulted ceiling, said Colthart. Behind the house, seating, dining and grilling areas overlook an infinity pool and the beach, she said. The other side of the house has views of a pond frequently filled with flamingos.

The Lynches visited the home about twice a year, usually staying for several weeks at a time, John said. They enjoyed snorkeling, sailing, paddleboarding and playing pickleball with their children and grandchildren. Over the years, they developed friendships with resort staff and often invited them over for drinks or recruited them for touch football tournaments on the beach, John said.

Now, however, the couple have decided to sell their home because they want to spend more time traveling.

“I have mixed feelings about selling, but we don’t use it as much as we could, and we want to travel,” said the former governor, who was previously the chief executive of furniture manufacturer Knoll. The couple recently returned from a trip to Africa, which had been on his wife’s bucket list, he said.

The Lynches are also asking $3.6 million for a nearby lot where they planned to custom build a home before this house came on the market.

Another home on Virgin Gorda is in contract to sell for $16 million, a price that would break the island’s $12.6 million record, said local real-estate agent Anthony Campbell of Smiths Gore Christie’s International Real Estate. On average, luxury homes on Virgin Gorda sold for about $3 million in 2022 and 2023, up from about $1.7 million in 2021, said Campbell. The most expensive home in the British Virgin Islands sold for $53.4 million in 2014, he said.
