A New Latitude
Oil Nut Bay Properties Limited Becomes Corcoran BVI
The British Virgin Islands’ Oil Nut Bay Properties has joined forces with New York-based real estate powerhouse Corcoran to launch Corcoran BVI. From the world-famous reef-protected bay on the North Sound of Virgin Gorda, Corcoran BVI will serve clients in the exceptional Oil Nut Bay residential community and across the British Virgin Islands. First and foremost, Corcoran BVI will provide the opportunity to purchase exclusive property in a community acclaimed for merging high-end living with environmentally sound design and construction principles. Corcoran BVI is led by visionary Chairman David V. Johnson, whose love affair with real estate began over 30 years ago and includes the founding of a boutique brokerage in exquisite Bay Harbor, Michigan, on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Founded in 1973 in a small office on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Corcoran quickly established a reputation for providing peerless service to New York City’s most discerning buyers and sellers. It’s a reputation the company strived to uphold and protect as it grew — and grow it did. Today, through its owned brokerage operations, Corcoran serves the whole of New York City, the exclusive towns of New York’s Hamptons region, and the coastal communities of South Florida, from the Palm Beaches to Miami. And through its finely cultivated affiliate network, Corcoran flies its flag in exceptional real estate markets across the United States and, with the auspicious debut of Corcoran BVI, beyond.
Pam Liebman, who joined Corcoran as an agent in 1984 and quickly demonstrated her genius for the real estate business, has led the company as president and CEO since 2000. A luminary in the stateside real estate world and a fixture on the Crain’s New York biennial list of the most powerful women in New York City, Liebman is the architect of Corcoran’s franchise ambitions, guiding the brand’s affiliate operation with the same expansive vision and deft touch that has enabled the brokerage’s propulsive growth.
Since its founding, Oil Nut Bay Properties has earned respect in the British Virgin Islands for its continual efforts to give back to the community. The nonprofit North Sound Foundation, created by Oil Nut Bay founder David V. Johnson and his wife Pam, exists to support the children and families of Virgin Gorda, and to assist the municipality’s other nonprofit cultural, educational, environmental, and health and human service organizations. The Foundation’s generous grants have benefited a host of local institutions and charities, including the Robinson O’Neal Memorial Primary School, St. Mary’s Schools, Kids and the Sea, the Special Olympics BVI, and the BVI Fishing Clubs. Moreover, the resort community extends its commitment to service by taking a lead role in helping residents navigate the economic fallout caused by the pandemic.
Corcoran, too, has a proud history of charitable efforts. In 2007, the company launched Corcoran Cares to serve worthy causes in its core regions, and to encourage agents and employees to make giving back a part of their lives. To date, Corcoran Cares has raised more than $4 million for cancer research, community initiatives, elder care, arts education, and more.
In 2018, Corcoran announced its intention to build a franchise network, and in February of the following year it made good on those plans, introducing California-based Corcoran Global Living as the brand’s first affiliate. This week, almost a year later to the day, Corcoran BVI becomes the brand’s tenth affiliate — and its first global presence. “It’s a badge we wear with great pride,” says David V. Johnson.
“We knew aligning with Corcoran was the right choice because of its growing market position, the synergy between our lifestyle brands, and its spectacular leadership,” Johnson adds. “We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership.”
Why the BVI?
The territory of the British Virgin Islands enjoys unrivalled natural beauty and predictably fine weather, along with a friendly tax code, political and economic stability, and reputation for safeguarding the wellbeing of its citizens and visitors.
Why Oil Nut Bay?
The resort and residences of Oil Nut Bay present a low-density, multi-generational destination, ideally conceived for a post-pandemic world. Characterized by well-spaced homes with private amenities and grounds, the community is focused on health, wellness, and luxury. Moreover, despite its secluded island location, Oil Nut Bay offers cutting-edge connectivity for remote learning and working.
Like its first Caribbean affiliate, Corcoran has built its reputation on overdelivering for its clients. For both companies, success has never been about matching names to houses, but to matching hearts to homes.
