Celebrated since 2007, the Christmas in July event in the British Virgin Islands is a reflection of the strong relationship between the people of Puerto Rico and the BVI. Puerto Ricans have shown immense support and kindness to the BVI, particularly during challenging times such as in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.
In gratitude for this incredible show of solidarity from our island neighbors, the BVI celebrates the “Puerto Rican Navy” during the Christmas in July event—that is, those Puerto Ricans who take to their boats each summer and descend on the BVI to celebrate sunshine and revelry. In fact, hundreds of boats make the trip to Virgin Gorda every year, bringing with them lively music, rum and other island cocktails, and their own unique brand of fun. It is a week filled with beach parties, dancing, drinking, dining and waterborne celebrations.
