I am very excited to announce a new resident at our Oil Nut Bay Animal Rescue Farm: Ray!
Ray is an eight-year-old Thoroughbred racehorse who joins Henry and Fugitive, our two resident rescue horses who have been part of the ONB family for many years.
Ray began his racing career along the East Coast of the United States. In 2023, he made the long journey to Puerto Rico by shipping container and eventually arrived in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he continued to race.
By the end of his career—approximately two months ago—Ray had competed in 70 races and won seven. While these numbers tell part of his story, they do not reveal what those years took from this remarkable horse.
Ray developed persistent lameness but continued racing until his last owner made the decision to retire him.
Unfortunately, once horses arrive in the islands, there are no retirement homes waiting for them. Most are simply turned loose and left to fend for themselves.
Thankfully, that is not Ray’s story.
We are delighted to welcome this beautiful horse to Oil Nut Bay, where he is receiving the love and care every animal deserves. He has a safe home now—a place where he can simply be a horse.
This is why rescue matters.
We hope all of our ONB owners and guests will visit our special animal sanctuary. We are incredibly proud of all our animals. They are grateful for the lives they have been given and we are even more grateful for the joy and companionship they bring to those lives they touch every day.
