    Giving Back to the BVI

    Return

    The North Sound Foundation

Oil Nut Bay visionary David V. Johnson and his wife Pamela Johnson founded the North Sound Foundation (NSF) in 2006 as a not-for-profit to give back to the people of the British Virgin Islands. The primary focus of the NSF is the children and youth of the BVI. In 2017 as a response to the rapid deterioration of the Virgin Gorda community because of Hurricane Irma, the initiative was broadened to include homeowners at Oil Nut Bay and other community-minded individuals and corporations.

      • Virgin Gorda Schools

The North Sound Foundation supports the local schools of Virgin Gorda, including the Robinson O’Neal Primary School, Bregado Flax Educational Centre and Ciboney Centre for Excellence. Following Hurricane Irma, the NSF rebuilt the Robinson O’Neal School and has contributed to the rebuilding and expansion of other schools on Virgin Gorda along with funding key educational programs and tools.

      • Bugout Wolbachia

The Bugout Wolbachia programme is a non-toxic, non-GMO initiative that aims to reduce the population of disease spreading Aedes aegypti mosquitoes on Virgin Gorda and at Oil Nut Bay. The number of biting wild female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes is reduced by releasing sterile Wolbachia-infected male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, whose matings with wild females are incompatible.

      • North Sound National Park

The goal is to create a National Park in the North Sound that can be used by the community and help foster civic responsibility. The Park will comprise an enhanced waterfront and dock, a reclaimed sandy beach, restrooms, picnic benches, BBQ pits, volleyball nets and hiking trails.

      • Virgin Gorda Afterschool Programme

The afterschool programme is a combination of capital and operational expenditure, with capital funds needed to construct a building to house the programme on property that was donated by the BVI Government in close proximity to the Ciboney School. The Virgin Gorga afterschool programme is needed to engage young minds on the island.

      • Virgin Gorda Swimming Pool

The Virgin Gorda Swimming Pool is a project being worked on for at least a decade. With its completion, a number of talented, young potential swimmers will have the opportunity to practice and train in appropriate facilities. It will also be a venue where swimming lessons can be offered to the community.
