Preserving the Natural Beauty of Our Open Spaces
To begin with, we believe in extreme low-density planning. That’s why we’ve taken great care to ensure that each homesite has been designed to highlight its own diverse topography and expansive sea views, while also preserving the beauty and overall cohesiveness of the property at large. We’re also committed to bolstering the value of all of the resort’s villas and estates through thoughtful architectural guidelines, drawing on natural building materials and a balanced palette so that easy building blends in seamlessly with the natural environment.
What’s more, a full 50 percent of the land at Oil Nut Bay has been designated as open space, with a variety of nature trails and land preserves located throughout. This allows our owners and guests to connect with nature easily and frequently, whether they’re exploring the island or simply heading to and from the Marina Village and their homes. Our state-of-the-art infrastructure also enables buyers to secure ready-to-build sites, complete with a carefully developed and constructed underground utilities network that runs throughout the property to minimize interference to the surrounding land and sea.
Prioritizing Natural Resources and Harnessing the Sun
Our commitment to sustainability extends to our energy usage, with solar power generating electricity for desalination plants, air conditioning, refrigeration, community lighting, and much more. We also use solar hot water heating systems throughout the property, and each villa, suite, and resort building has individual room/office AC controls to limit electricity consumption.
Water management is also a priority for us, and we have an extensive water management plan in place that includes reverse osmosis conversion and the use of collected rain and gray water (that is, for example, water that has been generated from washing machines and sinks).
To further minimize our carbon footprint, we utilize electric carts for resort operations as well as owner and guest use. And to manage waste across the property, we have a leading-edge recycling program for glass, metals, and plastics.
Building a Community Around Shared Environmental Values
At Oil Nut Bay, we believe in continuing education to keep ourselves, our residents and our guests informed about sustainable practices. That’s why we encourage our owners to design and build their homes to LEED standards from the very start, with assistance from our highly knowledgeable environmental team throughout the process. In addition, our Nature Center provides ongoing education for children and adults alike, with featured topics on the environment, the natural flora and fauna of the islands, and the native marine life in the seas that surround us.
What’s more, we’re proud to offer a unique Community Stewardship Program designed to engage the people of our BVI community—owners, guests and locals alike—and to encourage them to embrace and protect the environment. The mission of this organization is to preserve, protect, and conserve environmentally sensitive property in Oil Nut Bay and to mitigate the negative effects of Oil Nut Bay on ocean life, wildlife, and native habitats. The program encourages environmental stewardship, and provides ecological, scientific, and educational opportunities to the people of Oil Nut Bay. We also donate a portion of all sales of new and existing properties to the foundation for the entirety of the project.
