Virgin Gorda Deep Sea Fishing
A Bountiful Paradise
World class blue marlin and other deep-sea fishing flourishes just minutes from Oil Nut Bay in Anegada’s North Drop, where undersea canyons “drop” off the plateau undergirding the islands.
In the Fat Lady’s Marlin, the discovery of Virgin Gorda’s Sound Drop is chronicled as:
The boats would approach the marina with multiple marlin flags strung up on their antennas…
….The nine sportfisherman waved a total of 87 blue marlin during the Biras Creek International Team Fishing Tournament held in September, 1988…
Biras Creek is just minutes from Oil Nut Bay.
Other deep sea gamefish include wahoo, white marlin, sailfish, yellowfin and blackfin tuna, dolphin ( dorado) and kingfish.
Inshore and Reef Fishing
There is also plenty of inshore and reef fishing in Virgin Gorda. Bonefishing is the most popular. Weighing up to 10 lbs, this slender, silvery and surprisingly elusive bonefish makes an incredible fighting fish. Excellent bonefishing can be had in the BVI, especially in the reef-ringed island of Anegada.
Flyfishing is also popular for permit and tarpon only.
There are a vast number of fishing charter trips to choose from at Oil Nut Bay and surrounding areas.
